Here’s a brilliant idea: Smart Marketing and Media

Press Release

Leamington – Growing weary of the fast-paced city life and yearning to return to her small town roots, Samantha Shanks quietly packed up her desk at the large online advertising network she had worked at diligently and headed home with determination to embark on her own marketing company.

Solely owned and operated by Samantha, smart marketing and media was recently established and word of mouth is spreading like wildfire.  The buzz can be attributed to local business’ desires to create a web presence and expand their customer bases to include potential clientele that were once viewed as being unattainable.  While this new business is not the first of its kind in the area, Samantha is confident that her experience with the online marketing industry will contribute to the influx of clients; she picks up where others leave off.

“Many small businesses decide to have a website created on their behalf.  Once the designer has completed the task and been paid, they are left with a website that they do not know how to promote on the web other than sending out emails to their friends and family.”  Samantha continued, “While a website is a wonderful asset to any small business, it will be useless unless it is marketed to those users around the world who may be interested in purchasing the business’ products or utilizing an individual’s services.”

Having worked within the internet community since she graduated from the University of Guelph, Samantha possesses a knowledge of this fast-paced industry that extends beyond the years she has been employed within it.  She started with an ecommerce company, focusing on account management, along with search engine keyword campaigns and sales.  An aspiration for a change of scenery took her to Toronto, where she most recently worked for a pay per performance online advertising network.

“The online industry is young and so are the important players in it,” Samantha explained.  “It no longer matters how long you have worked for one specific employer but, instead, what you did with your time there.”

There is a certainty in her voice that resonates the confidence Samantha has in this new venture.  Perhaps, that is why she is currently offering a free consultation for those interested in using her services.

“Once small business owners can see what is available to them beyond their own community, they will be wondering why they didn’t start promoting online sooner.”

Rotarians learn about ‘Smart’ online marketing

Website can expand current business operations, says Shanks

By Natasha Uncianschi

Tilbury Times Wednesday, March 22, 2006

Local Rotarians were given a crash course in online marketing recently.

Samantha Shanks, owner of Smart Marketing and Media, educated the Rotary Club members on how businesses can prosper with their own websites.

“It was actually my business experience that got me where I am now, and that’s starting my own online marketing company,” she explains.

Shanks works from home in an office, and meets her clients where it is convenient for them, to discuss their campaigns.

“My target clientele is any business owner that wants to expand their client base,” she comments.  “There really is no age discrimination when it comes to the desire to succeed.”

A graduate of both Leamington District High School, and later the University of Guelph, Shanks found herself shifting to Toronto to work for a website company in the customer service area.  After a year, she moved back home to her roots and decided to open her own business.

“When I told my parents that I was going to start my own business and it was going to involve website promotion, they encouraged me to do whatever made me happy,” says Shanks.  “They’re honestly my biggest supporters.”

Shanks’ main focus is to consult with clients and work on the website design and marketing aspect.

“The benefit of having a website is to get a new customer base and expand on what you’ve already got started,” she explains.  “You can reach so many more people around the world by having a website and marketing it properly.”

There are tow different kinds of websites you can produce.  One is the basic information corporate site, which allows you to educate people on what your business does.  These types of sites provide only the basics such as contact information and<sic> an outline of the business itself.

The other is called an e-commerce or retail site.  This type of site allows you to ship out your products or expand your retail, without any face to face consultations with your clients.

“Everything is done online,” says Shanks.  “But a lot of people are afraid to get online because they think people will call them ‘spammers’ but that’s not true.

“It was reported that $30.1 billion was spent online during the Christmas season.  The number one purchase was apparel, followed by computer hardware.”

There are numerous benefits with online shopping, such as increased selections, confidence and security, and the simple convenience of not having to leave your home.

“There are no time constraints,” says Shanks.  “You don’t have to drive to the store to shop, you can simply do it in your pajamas.  It’s popular, and it’s a real simple thing to do.”
